Sustainable production

Lyocell fibers are derived from sustainable wood sources – sustainably managed forests. Wood and pulp used to produce the Qalm blanket is farmed in a sustainable way.

The Bamboo Lyocell fibers used in Qalm blankets are grown in a big Bamboo farm in Western China. As Bamboo grows about 1 meter per day the production is not overusing resources but rather making sure the bamboo trees grow in a controlled and healthy manner.

Thermal Regulation

The smooth fiber surface of Lyocell fibers absorbs moisture more efficiently than cotton. This supports the body’s natural thermal regulating mechanism, keeping your skin feeling pleasantly cool and dry throughout the day and night. Fabrics can also be engineered to provide warm and dry sensations on the skin.

Lyocell fibers absorb moisture efficiently. In comparison to polyester and synthetics, there is less available moisture formed on the surface of the fiber for bacteria to grow. Consequently, Lyocell fibers provide a less favorable environment for bacterial growth, offering better hygienic qualities to fabrics like lyocell compared to other materials such as Cotton.


Lyocell fibers have gained a commendable reputation for their environmentally responsible closed loop production process, which transforms wood pulp into cellulosic fibers with high resource efficiency and low ecological impact. This solvent-spinning process recycles process water and reuses the solvent at a recovery rate of more than 99%. You can have the assurance that your choices are not contributing to an adverse impact on the environment.

Measurements and hand evaluations of softness show that Modal fibers are twice as soft as cotton. The softness of Modal fibers lasts longer and is able to withstand repeated wash and dry cycles compared to cotton.
